A Double Rainbow to Welcome Rick Alviti/Elvis Tribute to the Pops
Elvis Presley was 26 years of age at the time Viva Las Vegas was released on November 22, 1961. He played Chad Gates and Angela Lansbury was 36 when she played the part of Elvis' mother, Sarah Lee Gates. The original working title of the film was 'Hawaiian Beach Boy'. The famous wedding scene was shot on Kauai at the Coco Palms Resort Hotel which had been in operation since 1953. Unfortunately, the resort closed after Kauai was hit with devastating Hurricane Iniki in September 1992. Blue Hawaii was Elvis' most successful film at the box office.
There is even a drink called the Blue Hawaii. It was created in 1957 by Harry Yee, legendary head bartender of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Hawaii when a customer asked him to create a drink that featured Blue Curacao. This tropical cocktail is made of rum, pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix. A similar version is called Blue Hawaiian which contains creme of coconut.
Then there was the Viva Las Vegas conga line with participants that included ..
Elizabeth S. Flower, Julia McMahon and Senator George Borello
Kentucky Rain
The tribute to Elvis presented by the talented Rick Alviti was a night to remember and one that took us all back to a special time in our lives. When Elvis from the stage asked for song requests I heard myself yell, Kentucky Rain. Thank you Rick for bringing your Elvis into our lives .. if only for a short while on a stage that floats .. the Allegheny Health Network Floating Stage at the Chautauqua Lake Pops.
