And the Chautauqua Lake Pops is Live Music
As the Nation becomes fully vaccinated and we are able to be around other fully vaccinated people we WILL return to normal. Grandparents will be able to hug their grandchildren after not being able to do so in a year. Friends will be able to give each other hugs and to shake hands with those we meet. The stress of it all will be lifted. We shall meet again and .. dance to the music.
"Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours."
Elton John
"Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It's transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, years back, to the very moment certain things happened in your life. It's uplifting, it's encouraging, it's strengthening."
Aretha Franklin
"When music is needed, it's really there and it serves a purpose."
Johann Johannsson, Composer
"One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain."
Music is even more .. music is not a luxury, but a necessity! A necessity, especially now after a very long year of isolation from friends and from family. We have a wonderful music venue right in our midst with the Chautauqua Lake Pops formerly the Bemus Bay Pops. The beloved Pops brought so much music and magic to the county with folks coming from far and wide to experience the Pops for 20 years in Bemus Point. In 2019, when the Pops relocated to the County Seat in Mayville it brought us more continued joy through music. Music lifts our spirits and brings a smile to our faces. It brings us together, as one.
One of the above quotes is from Louis Daniel Armstrong, nicknamed "Satchmo", "Satch" and "Pops". He was an American trumpeter, composer, vocalist and bandleader who was among the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades and different eras in the history of jazz. Armstrong was born and raised in New Orleans.
Many of you will recall that Steve Swanson was a huge part of the Bemus Bay Pops for many years until his untimely death. We mourn his loss and his musical talent. Each season Steve was always part of the Labor Day weekend finale and he always sang a song performed by the great .. Louie Armstrong, What a Wonderful World.
If there is one song that has come to be associated with the Bemus Bay Pops .. it is truly What a Wonderful World.
