Workers install a panel of Waterford crystal triangles on the Times Square New Year's Eve ball on Sunday December 27, 2020 in New York City in preparation for a pandemic-limited celebration. A celebration that will lack the usual tightly packed crowds of revelers! In a subsequent featured story later today you will read about the select group who will be in Times Square to witness 2021 arrive!
A worker from Landmark Signs holds one of the 192 Waterford crystal triangles in a sunburst design that will be added to glass triangles already on the Times Square New Year's Eve ball. Some new crystals are swapped in every year. This year's addition features a new Gift of Happiness design represented by a sunburst of bright cuts radiating outward.
The ball blazing with 32, 256 LED lights will be dropped at 11:59 on New Year's Eve to ring in 2021. Performances at the event will be designed for TV audiences watching from home.
In an unprecedented and challenging year such as 2020, we find comfort in the enduring traditions that inspire hope and intentional moments. In that spirit and to mark the New Year, Waterford reveals the newest design in their Greatest Gifts series: Gift of Happiness. This marks the 8th year in the series of designs and themes for Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball. The series will continue until 2023. In keeping with past themes, the Gift of Happiness collection speaks to something we could all use a little more of particularly during this holiday season. Last year's design was the Gift of Goodwill pattern.
On Friday, January 1st at 12:00 AM ET, billions of people from all around the world will tune in to witness the 2021 Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve ball make its iconic drop to ring in 2021. May 2021 be a better year for us all and we, once again, gather for the Chautauqua Lake Pops summer concert series!
Happy New Year 2021
Be Safe.
